Recently, Zahide Yetiş showed explicit images that she claimed belonged to a woman to the woman’s husband, directly endangering the woman's life.
It is unacceptable that, in the fight against violence against women, an entire commission established by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) to investigate violence and discrimination against women, has a man appointed as its head. Furthermore, ignoring many experts and NGOs who specialize in the field of violence against women, and inviting Zahide Yetiş to the commission is unacceptable.
Beyond being a TV personality who endangered a woman’s life on live television, with what knowledge and expertise was Zahide Yetiş invited to this commission?
Why, despite receiving considerable public support, has the demand of the TKDF and numerous women’s organizations to remove programs that promote violence, like those run by Zahide Yetiş and others, not been addressed?
Who is protecting Zahide Yetiş and the mentality she represents, and why?
To make matters worse, Zahide Yetiş came to the commission and stated, “Women also use violence,” further obscuring the systemic violence women face and contributing to the discrediting of this struggle.
We will not remain silent against this mentality that legitimizes violence!
This commission is failing to protect the rights and lives of women; instead, it serves to normalize violence and inequality!
This is why we, as women’s organizations, say that femicide is political.
